Born on 31 January 1988 in St Helier, Jersey. Brett is a striker who began his career as a youth player for Jersey sides First Tower United and St. Paul's before joining AFC Bournemouth in 2004. He made over 170 senior appearances for the Cherries before signing for Bristol City in August 2010. Brett returned to Bournemouth, initially on loan, and re-signed permanently in early 2013. He joined Ipswich Town in June 2015. Brett signed a three-year deal with Pompey on 13 July 2017.

Brett left Pompey in July 2020. He was popular with fans, although he fell out of favour with the manager during his final season at the club. Brett now plays for local non-league side Baffins Milton Rovers.
